Marshfield's Artemis FDJ NA I, "Roxanne" Formerly "Roxie" Owned by Ray and Pascale, Quebec, Canada Roxanne was the so called runt of the litter. She finished her FDJ test, placing third in May with 92 (of 100) points. I had the pleasure to watch her and her "brother" Tilou in the field. They have different personalities, but are both nice examples of GSPs. Roxie has a lot of motor, and is headstrong. Little Rox ran NA in Montreal June 18. Here a pup only a month after perfect pointing in the FDJ test, started taking out birds. We know she has pointing instinct, so she's having a little cramp between her ears. I note this, not to embarrass Ray, but as a cautionary tale for others to consider. You can be ready for test day, and Roxie was pretty much squared away a month ago, and still have a bad day under judgment. It was a last-minute opportunity to test as they had a no-show. I'm proud of Ray for putting her in. He learned quite a bit about his dog, and got valuable handling experience. On August 19, we learn "the rest of the story." Roxie ran the Natural Ability test on Wolfe Island with her home chapter, Ottawa Valley. She had one of those rare days. She handled without a word, she pointed and swam and tracked... If you've been to an NA test, you know the result. Four, Four, Four, Four.... One Hundred and Twelve Points, and a Prize I, of course. Oh, all "normal" physical attributes and DENSE/Medium Harsh coat. (I reckon 80% of shorthairs are judged medium dense.) Ray and Pascale have become very close friends. They put their deposit down before the breeding took place and visited (an eight hour drive) before the pups came, shortly after they came and to pick Roxanne up in person. Oh, and while Ray and Pascale had used pro-training, they have elected to strike out on their own. Ray & Pascale have trained this dog from not pointing and taking out birds at 8 months to UPT level steadiness at 12 months. |
