Dove v Bergsteiger

Marshfield Kennel
Gifted Bird Dogs for Experienced Hunters

What kind of health care do the pups get before they go home?

Marshfield Kennel has a veterinarian "on staff."

The vet is involved before your pup is even conceived.  It starts with a check-up for Dove to make sure everything is OK.  A blood test is run for canine VD.  And the heath certificate for shipping Dove on the airline is done.  During is check-up last year, we discovered a lump that had to be removed prior to the pregnancy because it would have been unsafe to remove it while she was pregnant.

Towards the end of the pregnancy, I’ll have an x-ray taken to confirm pregnancy and give a fairly accurate count of the pups.

It’s highly likely that this litter will be whelped with the assistance of Dr. Amanda.  After whelping all the pups and Dove will have a thorough examination, and a follow-up x-ray to make sure everything that was supposed to come out did come out.

The tails will be docked and dew-claws removed before the pups open their eyes.  This is somewhere around 3 days old.

Your pup will be de-wormed three times (4, 6 and 8 weeks) before it goes home with you.  It will have proper vaccinations and two doses of kennel cough vaccine prior to going home.

Any dogs going to Canada will have a CKC microchip implanted for the cost of the chip so you can easily import and register the dog.

I keep very good records on the pups.  You will get the original chart including daily weight for the first two weeks and weekly thereafter, every shot and drug the pup has had and my notes.

You should schedule a visit with your vet for shortly after you take your pup home.  The purpose of the visit is to confirm the health of your pup and to set a schedule for the remaining vaccinations.
